In the interview series “The Big Questions,” RWTH experts provide insight into some of the world’s most pressing issues. Elisabeth Clausen holds a doctorate in mining engineering and has been a professor at RWTH since March 2018, where she teaches “Advanced Mining Technologies” and leads the institute of the same name.
Together with her interdisciplinary team, she develops innovative solutions for the automation, digitalization, and electrification of mining machinery and production processes—in underground and open-pit operations as well as in deep-sea mining. Professor Clausen has received several awards for her contributions to modern, innovative mining education, including RWTH’s Teaching Award.
Is „dark, dirty, dusty, dangerous“ still the image of mining?
